If you have a mail service subscribed to through your service, follow the instructions below for setting up your email client. Alternatively, you can use Webmail (https://webmail.avaruus.net) instead of a dedicated email client.

Q: SPF Record

SPF Record (<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sender_Policy_Framework">Sender Policy Framework</a>) is necessary in your domain’s DNS server for many practical reasons. For example, the Gmail.com email service requires the use of an SPF record to ensure that emails sent from your domain address are not classified as spam or rejected otherwise. The Sender Policy Framework helps protect your domain from spoofing fraud and prevents emails sent from Avaruus.net’s network (e.g., from Webmail or the SMTP server) from being marked as spam. If an SPF record is not used, the receiving email service is more likely to mark the email you send as spam. However, if an SPF record is used, the receiving email service can verify (to a limited extent) that the email is coming from a trusted server – not from a spammer’s server. PHP - memory_limit

The PHP memory limit is a crucial setting that determines how much memory a PHP script can use during execution. This setting is vital for the stability and performance of PHP applications. It helps prevent scripts from consuming excessive system resources, which can lead to decreased performance or even server crashes. It's recommended to check the script's documentation to determine the required amount of memory.

If you encounter an error message like the one below on your website, it means the PHP memory limit has been exceeded, and you need to either optimize your script or increase the limit:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 20480 bytes)

The memory limit is defined in the php.ini configuration file. The default value is 8M (8 megabytes). In the example above, the execution exceeded the 128-megabyte limit (134217728 bytes).

To increase the PHP memory limit:

Log in to your Oma Avaruus control panel using your credentials.
Select Settings -> Pages from the left menu.
Choose the website you want to modify and click Edit.
In the window that opens, click PHP settings.
Activate your own php.ini if it's not already active, and modify the memory_limit directive. Save the changes.

DNS Records

Domain’s DNS records (i.e., zone records) are instructions in the domain’s DNS server that provide information about the domain – for example, which IP address or hostname is associated with a domain or subdomain, and how email traffic is routed.

| If you are only using the services provided by Avaruus.net with your domain, you do not need to make any changes to the DNS records. If you are distributing services elsewhere, you will make the necessary changes to the records according to the instructions of the third party.

Making Changes to Records

All changes are made on the Oma Avaruus control panel. If you do not know what changes need to be made to the records, please request instructions from the party requesting the changes to be made.

Log in to Oma Avaruus.
Go from the main menu to the Domains section and select your domain from the dropdown menu.
Select the Zone Records tab and you will see all the domain’s zone records listed on the tab.

Adding a Record

Press the Add New Record button.
Enter the record type and the other information for the record and save.

Editing a Record

If the record is locked, first unlock it by pressing the lock icon.
You can edit the target value directly into the field or edit all the values by pressing the pencil icon.

SMTP Server for Outgoing Mail

To use Avaruus.net’s provided SMTP server for sending emails, follow these instructions:

First, enable the SMTP server for each email account in the Oma Avaruus control panel by following these steps:

Select Settings -> Email from the left-hand menu.
Choose your email account and click Edit.
In the opened window, click Sending.
Check the box next to “Enable SMTP Server (Authenticating SMTP Server)”.
Save the settings.

Once you have enabled the SMTP server, use the following outgoing mail settings in your email program:

SMTP Server: smtp.avaruus.net
Port: 465
Protocol: SSL/TLS
SSL Connection: ON
Authentication Method: “Normal Password”
Username: (your full email address)
Password: (the password set for your email mailbox)

WWW Redirect

WWW-level redirection redirects the user’s browser from one address on the browser’s address bar to another address. For example, if a user writes https://www.omadomain.fi in the browser’s address bar, the browser is automatically redirected to https://www.redirecthere.fi. Technically, the redirection is implemented when the server returns HTTP header information (HTTP-headers):

On Oma Avaruus customer page, you can make a redirection to the WWW address easily with the following steps:

Log in to the Oma Avaruus control panel at https://oma.avaruus.net
Go from the left-hand main menu to the Settings -> Pages section.
Click on the Edit button next to the desired address.
Activate the redirection by checking the box next to Automatic Redirection. Choose either Permanent Redirection (301) or Temporary Redirection (302). Enter the URL (address) field completely (including the https://-prefix) of the desired address to which the user will be redirected.
Save the redirection setting by pressing OK.

Note! If you need to make DNS-level redirections (e.g., to a third-party IP address or server), changes to the domain’s DNS zone file are made by modifying the zone record.
